Sleeping is Jennifer Lopez´s youth elixir and you can try it too!
Matthew Walker, a sleep scientist, states that sleeping at least 8 hours –and some people might need even more– is paramount for our body health. Sleep deprivation is associated with depression, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, heart disease, and weight gain, it affects our immune system and those who sleep more have proved to have a longer lifespan. This is how to make the most of your sleeping hours.
1. Schedule your sleep
Humans are creatures of habits, so stick to an 8-hour sleep schedule 7 days a week.
2. Exercise earlier in the day
Exercise will help you sleep only if you do it at least 3 hours before going to bed.
3. Stay away from caffeine and nicotine
As nicotine and caffeine are stimulants, consuming these in the afternoon will keep you alert for more hours.
4. Don’t drink alcohol before going to bed
Alcohol will interrupt your REM sleep and keep you in the lighter stages of sleep.
5. Don’t nap after 3 pm
Although there are countless benefits of napping, if you take them too late it will make it more difficult to fall asleep.
6. Take a bath before going to bed
To fall asleep, your core temperature needs to drop about 1°C, and taking a bath will help you.
7. Forget about your electronics
Stay away from cell phones, computers, and television. The blue light emitted by gadgets suppresses the secretion of melatonin, the hormone that regulates the sleep/wake cycle which increases in the evening.
8. Get some sun exposure
It is important to be exposed to the sun at least 30 minutes a day, this will help you regulate your sleep.
9. Don’t toss and turn in bed
If you are not able to fall asleep for more than 20 minutes, get up and do something until you feel sleepy, but don’t stay in bed.
Now that you know the secret to beauty is attainable, schedule your sleep, leave your electronics out of the bedroom and drift into the elixir of youth!
