Nurture your mind, body, and spirit with a holistic approach to beauty

Detox treatments shouldn’t be considered only from an aesthetic point of view, to be able to glow from the outside, we first need to reflect upon our routines and steer away from habits that no longer work. Here is a guide to nourishing your mind and body.

We can’t go back and change what we did in the past, but we can choose to lead a positive, proactive and fuller life. In hindsight, all our experiences, good and bad, have happened for a reason –I know it’s a cliché, but nevertheless, it is true. The bottom line is that we can feel nostalgic about the past or do something to change our present. The choice is for us to make. Something as apparently small as taking up healthier beauty routines and habits can make a big difference and here’s how to start to discard all old habits that no longer serve you well.

Detox: from what?

Toxins are present in the air, the pesticides in the food we eat, the skincare products we use, the clothes we wear, toxic relationships and images we are exposed to. They can detriment our mind and body as well: low energy, pain, disease, skin conditions, headaches, the list is endless.

Our body is already equipped with mechanisms to get rid of toxins: lungs, skin, hair, liver, bowel and kidneys are there to dispose of all the toxins present in the air pollution and the food we eat. But there are several other ways to help the detoxification systems and look and feel amazing.

Enter into the right mindset

Start by being kinder to yourself, you are the only person that knows whether you could have done it better or if you’ve made your biggest effort. It is important to start your detox in the right mindset full of love and positivity.

Turn off your electronics, stop wearing makeup for a weekend to let your pores breathe and make time to concentrate on your mini beauty detox.

Choose natural beauty products

Choose natural beauty products

Cosmetic products sometimes contain products sourced from petroleum, petrochemical gasses and other substances that include parabens and toxins.

Look up natural recipes for hair treatments, face masks, scrubs and moisturizers –the ingredients are probably already in your pantry! These are some options:

Face mask for all skin types:

Mash some fresh raspberries and apply the mixture to your skin, leave it for 10 to 15 minutes, and rinse off with warm water. The result: silky, smooth complexion.

Hair treatment:

Whisk 2 egg yolks and 2 1/2 tablespoons of cognac, blend it well and apply the mixture to your hair right after the shower, as you brush it. Rinse, and rise again with some water and a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar. This will make your hair look shiny and healthy.

Drink water

The first thing you should do in the morning is to drink a room temperature glass of water –you can add a few drops of citrus juice– and make sure your daily water intake is at least 2 liters.

Breathe

With each inhale, breathe in expanding your stomach, then open the ribcage and rise the chest, exhale from the chest to your belly –try to slow down each time you breathe. Breathing the right way promotes physical and emotional healing.

Sleep well

Make sure you sleep your 8 hours in the proper environment: de-clutter your room, and turn off all electronics and lights as well. If you establish a healthy sleeping routine, it will improve your mood, your skin and your mental performance in general.

Eat colorful vegetables

Make sure you eat a rainbow as colorful vegetables are great sources of antioxidants and nutrients and reduce your sugar and alcohol intake. Check your refrigerator and pantry for unhealthy food and replace them with avocadoes, tomatoes, walnuts, tofu, berries, fatty fish and all kinds of vegetables.

The bottom line

It would be amazing if you could include these practices in your life, not just a weekend. Start our journey to self-discovery today –find out what inspires you, motivates you, set personal goals, and go for it. In the end, that’s what life is about, right?
