4 Reasons why I think The Law of Attraction actually works

I can honestly say that The Law of Attraction has worked for me at certain times of my life, but much as I would like to believe is some magical spell cast to make all my dreams true, I think it was me the one responsible for my achievements.

The Law of Attraction came into my life when I was going through a rough time. A friend recommended the book The Secret, by Rhonda Byrne–it took me about 3 months to finally read it.

The Secret, whether we like it or not, is a self-help book. Of course, I thought self-help books were for those who didn't analyze themselves –and I did, believe me–, that it was junk literature, some kind of spiritual entertainment. However, it came to a point where I could really use some positivity in my life and I read it as a last resort. As soon as I got to the third page I became hooked, I don't know under what spell I was but I believed every single word I read.

The Secret gives you a set of principles to follow in order to achieve your goals–positive energy that attracts positive results, your reality is a reflection of your thoughts and if you believe you can achieve your goal, the universe will make it happen.

And I decided that I was going to test it.

2 Times the universe made it happen for me

2 Times the universe made it happen for me

The tedious line

I went to the supermarket, the same supermarket I used to go to every week and I knew the lines were so slow that I felt excruciating boredom until I could finally checkout. So I thought, “I'm not going to fret over it, because, in a minute, a window will open, a cashier will call me, and I'll be leaving in 5 minutes”–it was precisely what happened, the universe had granted me a gift

I was so excited, I couldn't believe what had just happened, could I actually change my fate? Again, a few hours later I got skeptical and decided to test it again.

The scary exam

I had to sit for a language exam that was extremely difficult to pass. I told myself that I wanted to write about “Waiting in lines" because I had plenty to say about it–among all the topics in the world I could have been given to write about, the teacher chose “On waiting in lines.”

After those 2 successful events, I honestly thought I could change the world with my thoughts, and my attitude towards life changed, but was it The Law of Attraction?

4 Reasons why I think The Law of Attraction could actually work

4 Reasons why I think The Law of Attraction could actually work

Hate to break it to you, but those were the only two times in my life The Law of Attraction seemed to have worked for me. I can't tell whether the universe made it happen, or it was sheer luck because nothing similar to that ever happened to me again. However, I wouldn't say the Law of Attraction is not real, in fact, it is quite useful, but not because of the universe making a change for you, it is you who can change the way you feel about your life, therefore make big changes in your life. That is what manifesting is all about.

This is my take on the Law of Attraction and how you make it work for you:

1. If you believe it, it is real

It doesn't matter how you came to believe that you can achieve your goals, what's important is actually believing you can do it. For example, suppose you are sure you will get a job, then you'll do better at the job interview, you'll be more confident and assertive, and you'll feel less anxious about your future. You will make it happen, not the universe.

2. A positive attitude, attracts positive people

Haven't you noticed when you are happy you tend to meet nice people? Why do we only meet someone new once we've gotten over our exes? It's because when you feel good people want to be around you, you want to be around people, and that way everything seems to fall into its place.

3. Changing the way you feel impacts your social relations

Whether is your relationship with your family or friends, or it's how successful you are at job interviews, people will only notice your worth once you know your worth–and this is how people understand that you are reliable, confident, and more opportunities will be presented to you.

4. You feel happier with what you have, and still hope more good things are coming

If you have been able to believe the best is yet to come, it will totally change the way you feel today. You'll be open to making new experiences, and meeting new people, you'll be creating your own opportunities

The bottom line

You'll be open to making new experiences, and meeting new people, you'll be creating your own opportunities.

Now I do understand why The Law of Attraction works, it is a matter of self-esteem. It doesn't matter whether you believe you can do it because the universe will provide it or that all the effort you are making will finally pay back. The reason does not affect the results: you'll still stand a better chance of achieving your goals

That is why I try to stay positive, and I confess that every now and then I turn to self-help books for a quick fix of self-esteem
