Would you like to decorate your house for Halloween spending little money and still celebrate the spirit of the fall? This is how to decorate with pumpkins this Halloween!
The tradition of Samhain originated in Ireland, where they used to carve turnips to create their Jack-O-Lantern spells. In America, they started using pumpkins that were grown in America and they were much easier to carve as they were bigger.
The tradition is based on an Irish folk tale about a man named Stingy Jack. This man was a blacksmith who used to lay tricks on people, he ended up tricking the Devil as well. When he died, he was welcome neither in Heaven nor in Hell. Jack had to walk along with the earth and took a turnip and placed a lump of coal inside. A Jack-O-Lantern is used to ward off negative spirits that walk the earth during Samhain when the veil between both worlds is said to be lifted. The faces that are carved are the protectors of our homes.
