Though it is no shame having under-eye circles, it might sometimes be annoying. While you can apply makeup to improve your appearance, some foods can help you.

And this is true because the eyes are the first thing people notice about ourselves, and our look is also the first thing we notice when we look at ourselves in the mirror. While some of us just have under-eyes circles naturally, some lifestyle choices can lead to making them worse.

 

 
 

What causes under-eye circles?

Among the biological causes of dark circles, genetics can play a big role, darker skin tones are more prone to them, and with age, the skin around our eyes becomes thinner and makes them more apparent.

On the other hand, lack of sleep, anemia, smoking, and low thyroid function can also contribute to prominent circles.

Foods that can help reduce under-eye circles

 

1. Tomatoes

Not only are they packed with antioxidants, but they also contain a compound called lycopene –which gives them their characteristic red color. Lycopene works as a blood vessel protector and helps in blood circulation.

2. Cucumber

The silica present in cucumbers can boost collagen production and the high water content helps us stay hydrated, which is paramount to combat skin aging and puffiness.

3. Sesame seeds

They can improve fatigue symptoms and contain vitamin E that helps vision and eye health in general.

4. Berries

Blueberries, black currants and blackberries have anthocyanin –an antioxidant present in purple, blue and black foods

 

5. Watermelon

Just as tomatoes, watermelon is packed with lycopene and they also are highly hydrating. So you might want to start including it as a healthy snack.

You can also help alleviate under-eye circles by taking some vitamins such as iron, B12 vitamin, Vitamin K and vitamin C, but make sure you consult a specialist before starting taking them.
