Beyonce surprised us with an unlikely hobby: beekeeping. The singer makes her own honey. But what are its health and beauty benefits?
Superstar Beyonce is known to use her own organic honey:
I know it’s random, but I have two beehives. Real ones. I’ve had them at my house for a while now. I have around 80,000 bees and we make hundreds of jars of honey a year," said Beyonce in an interview.
The famous singer added her reasons for having her own beehives at home:
I started the beehives because my daughters, Blue and Rumi, both have terrible allergies, and honey has countless healing properties,” she said.
She may be on to something.
Honey has been used for centuries as a beauty and health product. Its benefits are too many to count, but let's focus on the most important ones.
Health and beauty benefits of honey
Health benefits of honey:
- Honey treatment has been used to heal wounds and burns since ancient times and is still common today. In fact, over 20 studies on honey and wound care found honey most effective at healing burns and wounds.
- Honey is a rich source of phenols and other antioxidants. Many of these have been linked to a reduced risk of heart disease, cholesterol levels, and blood pressure.
- Honey helps to alleviate symptoms of the common cold and flu and is especially good to help treat cough.
- Local honey is believed to help alleviate symptoms of hey fever.
Beauty uses of honey:
Yet the health benefits of honey are only some of the reasons we love it. Its use in natural beauty is just too good to ignore.
- Use it as a mask: raw honey can hydrate the skin, leaving it soft, radiant, soothed, and glowing.
- Honey crystallizes over time, meaning it can act as a gentle exfoliant. And since it's antibacterial, you can use it for your daily face wash!
- Up your bath game with a honey-infused soak. Honey’s hydrating powers will leave skin silky soft, just add a few tablespoons to your bath.
- Natural lip balm. Treat your lips with a honey mask. Just pop some on your lips before bedtime. Amazing.
- Cuticle softener. Massage honey into your nails and around the cuticles. It will soften and hydrate the skin.
