Is it normal for new tattoos to leak?

I've always fantasized about getting one of my drawings tattooed on my skin, but honestly, I'm also scared of the process. That is why I usually do a lot of research on tattoos, did you know tattoos could leak?

The truth is that no matter how awesome a new tattoo is, it is definitely an open wound, and you  to take proper care of it if you want to keep airborne bacteria away from it and prevent infections that can alter the look of your new ink.

And even though your tattoo artist of choice might have warned you about all the things that can happen to your new ink, you might have missed some of the instructions or simply forgotten them. If your tattoo seems to be leaking a clear fluid you might be alarmed.

In the first days, your new tattoo will probably ooze some plasma discharge. It is totally normal, fear not. If the fluid is clear, it is not pus and it means that it is not an infection. It is a normal step of the healing process, the skin will leak and  even form a scab, this is because your body recognizes your new ink as an open wound and your white blood cells are trying to heal it.

If the leaky skin lasts for more than four days, you might be using too much ointment. Decrease the mount, and if you don't notice any changes, make sure to consult a professional as there might be a risk of infection, especially if you notice redness or too much swelling.
