From your paella to your skin?

It sometimes feels like we use the strangest things for skincare, but this one ingredient got me wondering for a while.

We've tried it all for our skin, from butter to oils, banana, strawberry, avocado, honey, oats to even aquafaba and adzuki beans, but this ingredient is a super expensive delicacy that promises a lot of benefits for the skin.

Do you already know what it is? It's saffron. You've probably guessed it. Saffron comes from the saffron crocus flower and it is believed to have originated in Greece.

Have you ever wondered why it is so expensive? Each flower only produces threw treads and they bloom one week a year. It is been used for ages as a dye and as for its delicate smell and taste.

Saffron for the skin

Have you ever wondered why saffron is so expensive?

I was surprised to find out that it was a staple in Cleopatra's beauty routine and it was also used in other ancient civilizations too.

It has anti-inflammatory properties, and it promotes smoothness and clear skin. It can also help diminish the appearance of fine lines as it is a powerful antioxidant and it is also an exfoliant

Saffron toner

You can prepare a saffron toner using a few strands of saffron in rosewater. Leave it for at least 15 minutes before applying it.

Brightening safron mask

Mix saffron strands with honey and massage into your skin, leave it for 10 minutes and rinse, it will increase blood circulation, and tighten and hydrate your skin.

Saffron sugar scrub

Crush a few strands of saffron and mix it with a tablespoon of sugar and half a tablespoon of coconut oil – feel free to adjust the recipe, the idea is to get a paste that you can rub in circular motions onto your face and neck. Rince and apply your toner, serum, and moisturizer as usual.
